For those who wish to know and to clarify for others who have never really played RPGs before: The game will be Universal, which means that the mechanics and most skills, the EXP , etc. will work for almost any setting or genre applied to it. Say you wish to play Legion set in the genre of your favourite TV show or comic book, then do it. It only takes a little plugging in of objects, weapons, vehicles, etc.
To make it easier on those new to the game I have also included 3 (three)Expansions to choose from to start in:
>>End of Days: Pre Apocalyptic / Modern Horror
To be included in launch
By record, the Greek, Mayan, Aztec, and Egyptian calendars all end on roughly the same day near the end of 2011. No one really knows why, and how some of these cultures, who had no connection to each other can coincide so easily. End of Days takes on the last few years, or months, or even weeks of the end of the world (as we know it). Things thought to be fairy tales, and pure fiction have made themselves shown to the world. Mother Nature lashes back at humanity with horrendous disasters, etc.
During playtesting, this was the first expansion we played with, and to some, it was the most fun. the USA was under Martial Law, and splinter groups of freedom fighters were trying to stay away from the corporate giants and the government squabbles as territories were split usunder by the conflicts. Then the news of the asteroid hitting earth in 34 days sent a panic worldwide. Something the size of Africa would wipe out most of humanity, and cause another ice age... and thats the beginning of the problems...
...this is all heresay, and End of Days can be changed and tweaked to fit a group of different tastes. Maybe you don't want so much political aspect, or maybe you want more horror and suspense. the choice is yours!
>>Dark Ages / Renaissance: Typical Medieval
Most people who are into RPGs have played the GrandDaddy of them all, AD&D. So for most peeps, their first gaming experience has been a dungeon crawl, or something similar. to this end, Legion Dark Ages has been crafted to be as historically accurate or lack thereof as everyone wants. Coupled with the Fay Plug-in and you can have something similar in feeling to that old game, or even something in the vein of Tolkein. Dragons, shields, armor, weapons, ogres, etc. this should have everything you are looking for in a time where the nights were longer and the days to breathe shorter.
In Playtesting this was a blast. There is nothing like a good medieval campaign. Its an oldie but a goody, and you just cannot beat it. there is a reason it is still one of the best loved, and most played genres in gaming.
With Legion, obviously you can custom tailor any game setting, any object, etc. to make it however you want. As with all of Legion, the best way to play is to make it your own (collective) flavour.
>>Cyberpunk: Futuristic Sci-fi
In the Future, where bleak winds blow gutter trash around, and cosmetic drugs alter not only consciousness, but also DNA with each use; there are those that make their lives the best that they can. Whether they are guns-for-hire, combat medics, or Corporate spies, everyone fills their niche and do their best to survive day to day. this genre is the Author's personal favourite, influenced by everyone and everything from William Gibson's [ who first coined the phrase and word Cyberpunk] work ( ie: Neuromancer ), other games ( Cyberpunk 2020, Shadowrun, etc.), all the way to The Matrix.
In playtesting this was my favourite, but it never got very far into it. There were scheduling conflicts, but we fleshed it out enough to where I can say with satisfaction that other who share my interests in Cyberpunk will be pleased.
[Again it can be tailored to the whims and perks that the group comes up with, and that is part of the fun of playing a game like this, you make what you will of it and everyone comes together to create something of substance that you can reflect on years down the road.]
>>There is also the Fay plug-in mentioned earlier, but that will be addressed in another discussion on this same board. Again if anyone has any questions, post a reply, or even e-mail me.
